The equivalence of fracture and earthquakes has been established in recent years. While various aspects of the physics of fracture can be understood from the depinning of driven interfaces, the corresponding analogy for earthquake models has not been known. We show here, that the celebrated Burridge-Knopoff model of earthquakes, in the form of a train model, is equivalent to a driven Edwards-Wilkinson interface.
